About

Choosing a wedding photographer can be a difficult task. There are so many questions and depending on who you talk to, so many different answers. I really understand the problem. My aim is to offer a nice easy solution without over complicating things and it works!

It is not easy being objective when writing about myself, especially as wedding photography is so personal. I judge myself on results and the really positive and often emotional feedback from my clients when I present them with their wedding photographs.

So here goes…. I am a qualified professional photographer specialising in natural creative wedding photography. I am driven by a passion to deliver great results and not sticking to a formula. Although I am influenced by different wedding photography styles and continually learning, the way I work is more of a reaction to what happens on the day because every wedding is different. The key to my success is that I like my job! I like meeting people, I enjoy working with my clients, talking about their wedding photography and understanding what they want on the day. this is what makes it so rewarding for me, especially when I deliver the finished photographs and see the wonderful reactions from my clients as the memories of the wedding day come flooding back.

‘I believe in offering high quality wedding photography without compromises, so it really doesn’t have to take a big chunk out of your budget!’

So take a look around the site and get a feel for my style of wedding photography and if you like what you see then why not contact me for an informal no obligation discussion about your wedding plans.

Quality wedding photography
small details make a big difference

I have always had a passion for photography. I started my career before digital photography where I didn’t have the luxury of taking lots of pictures hoping to get one good one, so I had to be more selective and learn the craft of photography. That level of training early in my career put me in a good position. Like most other professional photographers, I now use high quality digital cameras.

I also take on commercial projects, including product shots, headshots and generally helping customers improve their visual content across websites, social and print media as well as continuing with personal projects, you can see some examples by clicking on these links:

Services

Wedding photography

My philosophy is to keep things simple: be honest, no hidden charges and most importantly give you a great set of wedding pictures that tells a story when budget and quality are equally important.

Wedding packages

Professional wedding photography doesn’t have to be expensive, my pricing is only a guide and can be tailored depending on your requirements.

Reviews

Reviews are coming increasingly important, however, they don’t give you the full picture, so any decision should be made by looking at my work and if you like my style of wedding photography.

Video

This a an example of a video slide show, which is compiled of key photographs taken on the day. You can choose as many as photographs as you want and the music to add to it (although you need to be careful with music copyright).

These videos can be uploaded to social media channels and are a perfect way to share your wedding photographs online with your friends and family.

Wedding photography

From bridal preparations to the first dance

My approach is to show you what I can do then ask you what you want, we then decide together on the style of wedding photography and agree a list of pictures to be taken on the day. I don’t believe in taking hundreds of pictures because as one client once said to me, ‘I just want a nice set of wedding pictures that I want to keep looking at to relive the happy memories of the day and not spend hours going through them’. As the saying goes the customer is always right, so I aim to give you what you want and not steer you towards something you don’t need!

I am flexible in my approach and able to shoot natural style as well as a few posed pictures. Nothing is compromised, I use professional cameras, lenses and editing software. I take studio flash to every venue just in case it rains, I am a fully qualified photographer and have many years of experience.

If all of this sounds like the kind of wedding photographer you are looking for, please contact me and we can talk through your wedding photography plans and don’t worry there is no obligation!

Bride getting ready

There is activity everywhere: Bride and Bridesmaids getting ready, hair, make up and the guests are arriving. The groom and best man are getting ready and there are preparations around the venue, it is just a hive of activity! I aim to capture as much of this as I can moving around the different areas, photographing in a discreet editorial style, to give you a more personal record of this special time.

I prefer to take pictures in soft natural light, because that represents what you saw on the day and provide you with a mix of colour and black and white photographs.

I also go around the venue taking pictures of people arriving , people just catching up, having fun and recording as much of the build up to the ceremony as possible in a non posed natural relaxed style of photography.

Hard Days Night Hotel

The Ceremony

Being the official wedding photographer, I normally get access to all areas  ensuring I get those special moments. The key is trying to capture the emotions of the day. All weddings are special whether it is in a church, registry office or a wedding venue, so knowing what to look for and when it will happen is key to being able to think ahead and be in the right place at the right time.

I am always discreet and do not interfere with the ceremony. Where possible, I will use natural light, because it captures the mood and emotion of the day.

After the wedding ceremony, I will know from the planning stage how much time I have before everyone needs to be at the wedding breakfast. So I tend to let everyone just enjoy the moment, have a few drinks and as your ‘most enthusiastic guest with a camera’ I will look around and capture all of those priceless moments. Around 20 minutes before everyone needs to leave for the wedding breakfast, I will take some posed shots of family and some pictures of the bride and groom.

St Chads Poulton Le Fylde Wedding Photography

Being the official wedding photographer I get access to exclusive areas ensuring I capture those really special moments.

Wedding Breakfast

This as a very private part of the day, so I take time out in a separate room out to review the pictures already taken and let everyone else enjoy the wedding breakfast.

I will have usually taken shots of the wedding breakfast room before everyone arrives, to capture the memory of the layout, the table styling and the details that have been put there to make it so special and memorable.

I will only go into the room just before the speeches are due to start. Nothing will be posed, it will just be about capturing those special moments and people enjoying the speeches, the humour and the emotions.

Some couples will cut the cake after the speeches and some wait until the evening party, however, whichever way it goes, after this part, I will stay in the background, while everyone retreats and waits for the evening party.

I always look for those special moments and as people become more relaxed I get some great natural shots.

First Dance

This is where the party really starts! My job is to mingle with the guests and capture the atmosphere and party spirit showing everyone having a great time!

I don’t set any time limits, so it takes as long as it takes and you don’t have any worries about having to get things done by a certain time.

When the moment comes for the first dance I will be there to capture this special moment and take a selection of pictures to ensure your memories come flooding back for many years to come when you look at the pictures.

Sometimes there are special requests, which I am always happy to do, as I always like to go the extra mile because quite often at this point in the day, people are at their most relaxed and on almost every wedding I have photographed I always come away with that extra picture that completes the day!

A great example of a natural first dance, no posing, just enjoying themselves!

Below there is a small selection of wedding photographs in a gallery, you can click on them to see them full screen. If you click on the green button it takes you to the blog where there are many more examples taken at different venues.

Frequently asked questions

In my experience, most people prefer timeless reportage style with an emphasis on observation, to capture the essence of the day and record things unobtrusively, however, they also almost always request a few posed family pictures. I prefer to talk to my clients and agree a list of formal photographs in advance, then I can work around this to get the reportage style pictures. So in a nutshell I will be like an enthusiastic guest discreetly running around everywhere to ensure I get a great selection of wedding photographs which documents and provides a story of your day from start to finish.

Even though the trend is more towards documentary style wedding photography (sometimes called natural wedding photography) there is always an expectation to do some group shots. The reason is, people like them, especially for grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters etc. It is an important part of the wedding and these pictures tend to be the most downloaded.

Having been professionally trained using film cameras, I have a more finely tuned instinct to make every photograph count and not rely on taking hundreds of photographs in the hope of getting something acceptable. There is no doubt that digital cameras have made photography much more accessible, but the camera is only as good as the person using it. I use professional quality digital cameras and lenses and take as many photographs as I can throughout the day, but one thing you can be sure of is that you won’t be presented with hundreds of photographs which can be overwhelming.

  • All packages include:
  • Pre-wedding consultations
  • Pre wedding shoot (if required)
  • Photography on the wedding day (time dependent on requirements)
  • Professionally processed digital images
  • Private web gallery online for one year
  • High resolution files on a USB key ready for you to print or share

I usually allow 7 days. Processing the digital images to a professional level normally takes around 2 days, however, most people are on honeymoon for one or two weeks after the wedding, so this fits nicely within this timeframe. I prefer to present the finished photographs in person as opposed to just sending a link to the online file.

Because I use a professional full frame digital camera and lenses, the quality is exceptionally high  therefore the image files can be used for anything from screensavers to large prints on canvas.

Albums can be purchased separately, I can show you these when we meet.

Yes, a £50 non-refundable deposit will secure the date.

I have photographed weddings at registry offices which only take a few hours to weddings that start from the bride getting ready all the way through to the last dance, which takes the full day. Every wedding is different, so it is best to contact me to doses your requirement and I will talk through the different options.

You can see a selection of my personal work covering a range of subjects.

I am based in Southpor and cover areas around the NorthWest: Formby, Crosby, Liverpool, Waterloo, Hightown, Preston, Chorley, Runcorn, Warrington, Wigan, Blackpool, Poulton Le Fylde and Barrow in Furness.

If your area is not in this list, don’t worry, just contact me and I am sure we can come to an arrangement.

The English weather can be unpredictable even in summer! So part of my planning process is to visit the venue well in advance and plan where I will be taking the wedding photographs, but most importantly find a room where I can take pictures inside if it rains and I always take portable studio flash to every wedding just in case!

Wedding Albums

Wedding Album

Wedding pictures can be presented in many ways, however, they can work out to be very expensive. I offer a budget friendly version which only costs £125 (plus postage). This is a professionally printed hardback A4 landscape book, which normally fits around 40 pictures inside, although more can be included by adding more pages for a small additional cost. You choose your best pictures and I design it online. You get to view the book and make any changes before it is printed. There are a number of preset cover designs to choose from. The picture layout is completely subjective, but the aim is to tell a story of the day. You can also add text to the pictures to further enhance the book.

I prefer this type of book, because it is a nice size, enough to bring back those happy memories and doesn’t take hours to get through!

I also supply all of the pictures in hi-resolution for you to print at no extra cost.
